Question 68 - Problems - Chapter 1¶
Problem:¶
In the Glápagos Islands group on the equator there is a small island of Marchena which is located 60km west of the island of Genovesa
Question:¶
If in Genovesa the sun goes down at exactly 8:00 pm, when will it go down in Marchena?
Solution:¶
The sun goes down in the west. Marchena is located west of Genovesa. The sun will therefore go down there later.
At the equator the sun does 40,000 km to have a complete passage.
For 1 km she does so $\frac{24\;h}{40\ldotp 000\;\textrm{km}}$ hours
For 60 km this will be $\frac{24 h*60 km}{40\ldotp 000 km}$ hours
